CCM’s Conference each April is the organization’s premier event where experienced communications professionals gather.
The Conference is three days of open discussion, best practices and learning with some of the most senior and influential communicators around. And it’s here where members network with each other and dialogue about the professional challenges of career and work issues that we all face–more than ever in today’s uncertain marketplace.
We need your input to ensure future Conferences are everything you want them to be–from location to speakers.

Mass Collaboration is Here. Are Your Leaders Ready?
by Teryl Taglieri, 2009 CCM Conference Committee
At our 2009 Conference (April 29 – May 1), join Anthony D. Williams co author of the groundbreaking book “Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything” to hear how smart companies are capturing the collective wisdom of their employees, consumers and the public to innovate and grow.
In the last few years, traditional collaboration (you remember… face to face meetings, conference calls, e-mail strings) has been surpassed by mass collaborations on an unprecedented scale. Collaborative tools are changing companies and our leadership.
Imagine:
Wikipedia, a collaboratively created encyclopedia owned by no one, authored by thousands of global enthusiasts, is ten times larger than Encyclopedia Britannica with roughly the same level of accuracy.
Rather than hiring more researchers, the CEO of P&G told his leaders to find 50% of their new product ideas from outside the company. Ugh? Log on to InnoCentive where you’ll find over 90,000 scientists around the world that help solve tough R&D problems (and receive cash rewards).
To better protect its citizens, the U.S. intelligence community uses Intellipedia, an online tool for collaborative data sharing, allowing over 37,000 officials (with appropriate clearances) from the 16 US Intelligence agencies to share information.
T-shirt manufacturer threadless.com uses their community of fans to vote on designs submitted by amateur designers, then produces the shirts that win. New designers get exposure, the company saves on their design costs and the consumer buys into the product before they spend a dime.
It’s all true. Blogs, wikis, chat rooms, search engines, online auctions, and personal broadcasting represent new ways to entertain, communicate and transact. And they are changing our economy, the way we work and the way we, as leaders, need to lead.
A Senior Fellow at nGenera Insight, Williams has been researching and writing about these trends in technology and society for over a decade. As we look in the face of mass collaboration across borders, disciplines and cultures, Williams will explore case studies of how some leaders fear the exploding growth of these massive online communities, while others embrace these changes and are thriving because of it. You’ll hear more about his current research on the impact of web 2.0 and wikinomics on government and democracy.
Wikinomics was named one of the best business books of 2007 by The Financial Times, The Economist, The Miami Herald, CIO Insight, The Huffington Post, Amazon.com, Hudson Bestsellers and Business Week’s innovative reporter.
You don’t want to miss this. Register today!
Stay tuned for the program line-up of Conference 2009 coming soon.

After Anthony Williams’ excellent presentation on Wednesday night, I heard several people mention it was, “Like drinking from a fire hose.” So I thought it might be helpful to offer some context for CCM members who are wrestling with what social media is and how it might fit into their communication strategies. Ok, I’m being a bit cheeky with this question, but I know you’ve also heard leaders, IT, HR, and communications professionals express their concerns about social media, and you have to wonder if this is their vision. Yesterday I joined fellow senior communication professionals for Shel Holtz’s pre-conference “Social Media for Communication Leaders” workshop. […]
